BlinkenPaint
In 2001, lots of people used BlinkenPaint to build their own movies for the Haus des Lehrers – lamp by lamp, frame by frame. Now BlinkenPaint runs right here in your browser. Go ahead: click the windows of the building and the lights come on.
BlinkenPaint needs a wider screen – turn your device or use a larger one.
Click the house to paint. Keys: arrows turn the pages, space plays, Tab hides the controls, a/i/d/e add, insert, duplicate and delete frames.
Your movie for the gallery
When your movie is done, send it to us: Submit to gallery above the editor or in the File menu brings it our way. We look at every movie we receive, and the best ones go into the gallery. Give your movie a title and your name in the info dialog (button i) first.
You can also download your movie (save or save as) and keep working on it later: as a BlinkenLights Movie (.blm) or in Blinkenlights Markup (.bml). Both open again with open – just like any movie from the gallery, if you want to see how others did it.
How it works
A click on a window switches its lamp on or off. Hold the mouse button to paint lines; at the bottom left you choose other brushes, line, rectangle or fill.
add appends a new frame, insert, dup and delete insert, duplicate or delete one. Every frame has its own duration: − and + change it in steps of 50 milliseconds, 1/2 sec and 1 sec set it directly. ▶ or the space bar plays the movie; the button with the circular arrow makes it loop.
The Image menu rotates, mirrors and inverts frames, the Frame menu offers more durations. The arrow keys flip through the frames, the Tab key hides the controls.
The Reloaded (2004) switch above the editor extends BlinkenPaint to shades of gray, as the Blinkenlights Reloaded installation could show them. The two bars at the bottom left then set brightness and opacity of the brush.
